DMS provided a full range of consulting services for the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center when it was built in 2001.

The history

The University of Maryland is a preeminent public research university, located in the city of College Park in Prince George’s County, Maryland.  A global leader in research, entrepreneurship and innovation, the university is home to more than 40,000 students, 10,000 faculty and staff, and 352,000 alumni.

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is a multipurpose theatre used by University of Maryland academic programs, artists-in-residence, and touring performances. 

Its goals are to build the future of the arts by educating, training and presenting the next generation of artists and creative innovators by being a hub of innovation and possibility. 

It is also committed to collaboration and the creation and support of new work that further advances our knowledge and understanding, working in its creative radius.

The project

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center redefines the artistic and physical landscape of the campus and Prince George’s County. Occupying 318,000 square feet and situated on a 17-acre site at the University of Maryland, College Park, the Center was designed to serve diverse regional audiences as well as campus departments and residents.

DMS provided a full range of consulting services including; Design Phase Cost Estimating, Work Packaging, Cost Reconciliation and Negotiations with CM, On-going Value Engineering and Cost Control, Design and Quality Review, Bidding Procedures and Documentation, Change Order Cost Estimating, Contract Negotiations and Award, Cost Reporting and Control.
