University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) is a hospital located in Glen Burnie, Maryland and is part of the University of Maryland Medical System.
BWMC originally opened as North Arundel Hospital in 1965 and had three floors with limited acute care services. In 2000, North Arundel joined the University of Maryland Medical System and in 2005, the name was changed to Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
The project originated to accommodate the growing population in Arundel County. The first phase of the project was to renovate and enlarge the emergency department.
The second phase of the project was to add a seven-story patient tower with 111 additional private rooms, and new offices offering outpatient services including the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, Outpatient Infusion Center and Sleep Center.
