In 2011 DMS provided the cost estimating services for Montgomery County Police, 3rd District Police Station, located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The history

The 3rd District Police Station is the first new police station in Montgomery County in 25 years.  The original structure was built in 1962 and did not provide adequate work space for staff, lacked essential security features, was not equipped to accommodate future technology, had no public meeting space, and required a major infrastructure upgrade.

The new building will be the command center for satellite facilities within the police district, and will accommodate approximately 200 department staff and volunteers.  The station is set to operate 24-hours 7-days a week to provide support to patrol teams.

The project

The project involves the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art 32,000 gsf police station to service Silver Spring, Maryland and the surrounding vicinity.

Designed by architects PSA Dewberry, the first floor of the interior contains public access areas, operations, patrol and patrol support functions, and a small prisoner holding area.  The second floor of the interior houses investigative units, staff support and administration.

Cost estimate

Estimated construction cost: $12million.
